Hunts

The latest patch added Hunts to Eorzea. I think we should share information to help each others enjoy and profit from the hunts rather than curse them. There has been a lot of "hate" surrounding the hunts and hunt groups so let's start with a few tips for successful hunting.

Be knowledgeable. Learn the names of the Elite Marks. There are 3 for each zone, an S rank, A rank and B rank.

Learn the spawn time and conditions. B ranks will spawn about every hour, A ranks will spawn between 3 and 4 hours. S ranks will spawn or can be spawned every 36 hours or 24 hours after maintenance. Some of the S ranks have other spawn conditions. We'll discuss this later.

Learn your map. Usually an announcement of a hunt will come with coordinates. Sometimes a direct teleport into the zone is not the best way. Learn your map coordinates so you don't show up late.

Make a macro to announce when you have found a mark. Or if you don't want to macro, target the mark and type: <t> <pos>
This will announce the name of the mark and its position to whoever you want, your party, Linkshell, or in shout.

Join a LS for hunts. Pay attention to local chat. You may wonder how people know when a "window" is open. Don't worry, it's not cheating. A lot of people run spreadsheets to keep track of kills to know when the marks will spawn.

The marks can spawn any where in the zones, so if you're searching, search everywhere.

Be in a group. You will seldom get full credit for a hunt if you are alone or with a friend. Full groups give you the best chance for full credit. When you arrive at a hunt alone, invite people to your group or ask for an invite. If you want an invite, put your Chocobo away.

Also be aware that people are mean sometimes. Don't let them get to you. Keep at it.

I've heard from a lot of people that they don't want to bother with hunts until SE fixes them. Don't hold your breath, the hunts are working as intended. They can be fun and rewarding if you approach them with the right attitude.

Now for a list of Elite marks

Middle La Noscea: S: Croque Mitaline A: Vogaal Ja B: Skogs Fru

Lower La Noscea: S: Croakadile A: Unktehi B: Barbastelle

Eastern La Noscea: S: Garlock A: Hellsclaw B: Bloody Mary

Western La Noscea: S: Bonnacon A: Nahn B: Dark Helmet

Upper La Noscea: S: Nandi A: Marberry B: Myradrosh

Outer La Noscea: S: Mahisha A: Cornu B: Vuokho

Central Shroud: S: Laideromette A: Forneus B: White Joker

East Shroud: S: Wulgaru A: Melt B: Stinging Sophie

South Shroud: S: Mindflayer A: Ghede Ti Malice B: Monarch Ogrefly

North Shroud: S: Thousand Cast Thedes A: Girtab B: Phecada

Western Thanalan: S: Zona Seeker A: Alectyron B: Sewer Syrup

Central Thanalan: S: Brontes A: Sabotender Bailarina B: Ovjang

Eastern Thanalan: S: Lampalagua A: Maahes B: Gatling

Southern Thanalan: S: Nunyunuwi A: Zanig 'Oh B: Albin the Ashen

Northern Thanalan: S: Minhocao A: Dalvag's Final Flame B: Flame Sgt Dalvag

Coerthas: S: Safat A: Marraco B: Naul

Mor Dhona: S: Agrippa A: Kurrea B: Leech King.

That's your list. Now here are the special spawn conditions we know about so far.

Agrippa, Mor DHona, open treasure maps in his spawn area, which is mostly the side west of the aetheryte (as in decipher them)
Bonnacon, west noscea, harvest la noscean leek, 8am
Brontes, west than, eat HQ food in his spawn locations
Ccroakadile, spawns on his own between 6-8 pm if it's a full moon
Croque-mitaine, mid noscea, spawns when harvesting noscean topsoil, 7pm
Garlok, east noscea, the rumor still has it fire into the cave, but it proably has more to do with rain in the area
Laideronette, cent shroud, spawns when it rains for 2-3 full cycles
Mahisha outer noscea, spawns after enough players have died
Mindflayer, spawns during night if there's a New Moon
Minhocao north thanalan, spawns for killing earth sprites in the core blimey fate
Nandi, walk the walk with minions
Nunyunuwi, south than, do fatess
Safat coerthas, jump to 1 HP
Thousand-cast theda N.shroud, fish a Judgeray between 5 and 9 pm
Zona seeker west than, glimmerscale if it's clear/fair

Some of you might wonder why you should hunt at all. The rewards is why. Each kill will reward you with Allied Seals, Myth and Soldiery.
S ranks give 50/200/40
A ranks give 20/80/20
B ranks give 5/30/10

And if you get really lucky, you will also obtain a blood splattered log from the kill. Trade in 3 of these logs for a sand of time or 2 for an oil of time. You can also trade in your allied seals for the blood splattered logs. As well as for minions, gear and other various items.

Please add any suggestions, hints, tips....anything you've got. Let's make hunts fun and profitable for everyone!

The S Rank in Northern Than spawned the other day while the core fate wasn't even up. So it might just be killing earth sprites in general. The fate just serves as a faster outlet for them.

Here's a link to the hunt page a lot of us use. It's a great resource to know where to hunt and when. When you get a kill you can report it. This keeps the site updated and useful. The only problem with pages like this is the trolls. To combat this, they only report a kill if several people report it, so it you kill something solo or with just a few people, it might not get reported.

Heres some nice info to add.

http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/thre ... -mechanics

The OP there seems to have spent vast amount of time testing and compiling all this. Couple tidbits in there is the marks timer for when it will spawn next seems to start right when it spawn, instead of when it dies. Nandi seems to spawn by just summoning minions a bunch. And Minhocao might be spawned by mining Ferberite, but its still up in the air.

Also regarding Minhocao, SE has made a post about its spawn condition as it has resulted in much player abuse. So getting vast amounts of sprite cores or hoarding them till the end are not spawn prerequisites for thr S rank.

Here's a cool bit of Beta trivia related to the hunts. Lem found this out this morning: Remember during beta there was a FATE in South Shroud called "Where the Stone Rolls" with a giant golem. Well it just so happens that the golem's name was Nunyunuwi, the same as the S rank Southern Thanalan mark. Guess they found a use for him. Makes me wonder if any of the others originally appeared in the Beta.
